Mountain Mission
United Methodist Mountain Mission is an operation that was began in 1943 to help people in need in Eastern Kentucky. Today there are eight stores in Kentucky. Trucks travel to churches in six states, including Indiana, to pick up slightly used clothing and household items for sale at reasonable prices. They are in Evansville three or four times a year and McCutchanville Community Church is one of the pick-up churches. You may bring item to the church office for instructions. Call first at 812-867-5735. Our next pick-up will be in August 24 2022.
From Karen Bunn: "By now, you’ve probably heard of the devastating flooding that came to Eastern Kentucky last night and this morning. The Mission and churches’ facilities were not affected; however, some of our employees have lost everything. Thousands of community people are affected and the amount of damage will be immense. Some have lost a little and more have lost a lot, and though the waters have yet to recede, the Lord’s work is already being done. Most counties in the affected area have declared a state of emergency, as many roads are blocked by water. This historic flooding has hurt this already economically depressed region. As I write this, search and rescue missions are ongoing. Most troubling, some have not heard from family members and do not know if they survived.
Currently, we are providing clothes to survivors of this tragic event through our Opportunity Stores, and will help in the coming weeks to meet other needs as they arise, one day at a time.
We are asking all our partners in ministry to send all the usual things you send (clothes, household items, furniture, etc.), to help us in the coming weeks to meet the needs of our communities. We anticipate the need to be very high and will need as many items as we can get.
If you have items to donate, they can be dropped off at one of our regular stops, or can be brought to the Mission in Jackson. If you are able to get together a truckload, with the help of those around you, we would be glad to make a special pickup.
If you would like to donate financially, send your donation to P.O. Box 888, Jackson, KY 41339, and mark it as ‘Flood Relief.”
Most of all, we are asking you all to pray, pray, and pray that the Lord will comfort this region and those who lost loved ones and homes. In the midst of all this destruction and sadness, we still know and believe Romans 8:28: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
